Our Lord, in His infinite wisdom, reclaimed the soul of Opal L. Sparr (nee Scott) April 29, 2013.Opal was born May 28, 1918 in Elyria and was a 1937 graduate of Elyria High School. She was formerly employed as an inspector at Westinghouse Corporation in both Mansfield and Cleveland plants. She had been a member of the Republican Executive Committee of Lorain County, ward leader, precinct committee person, election booth worker and had received a Certificate of Service from the Ohio Secretary of State.She was a volunteer at Wesleyan Village and a member of the Senior Active People, where her favorite exercise was water walking. Opal was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and was a past president and officer of the Ladies Aid and the Altar Guild. Her special joy in the service of the Lord was cleaning and pressing the altar linen. She loved playing cards with her grandchildren, long walks with her husband, cooking, baking pies, lemon bars and cookies. She was also family-famous for holding her own in spirited give and take conversations with Norm.Opal is survived by her husband of 62 years, Norman P.; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Reverend Ted Rellstab of Holgate, OH; grandchildren Pamela and Paul Rellstab of Holgate and Ted (Melanie) Rellstab of Homer Glen, IL great grandchildren Brody and Maddyn and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by parents Henry and Amelia Scott; brothers Winfield, Logan, Kenneth, Harold and Myrl Scott and sisters Thelma Rockwood, Queena Eminian, Vivian Berthoff and Mabel Cowling. Friends will be received Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Friends will also be received Friday, May 3, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the time of an 11:00 a.m. service at St. John Lutheran Church. 1140 West River Rd. N., Elyria, OH 44035 Reverend James Herbolsheimer will officiate with burial in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Township.
