P. Valassis Obituary
P. Tom Valassis, 85, of Elyria, died December 7, 2014 at Life Care of Westlake, Westlake, Ohio.Tom was born July 9, 1929 in Elyria and was a 1947 graduate of Elyria High School. He was a 1952 graduate of The Ohio State University with a B.S. degree in marketing and did post graduate studies at Kent State University.He served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant with the 151st engineer combat battalion in Korea during the Korean War. He enjoyed a varied business career which included teaching in his field at both Firelands and Elyria High School.He was a long time member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Elyria and St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Rocky River. He was strong in his faith, fiercely patriotic and a loyal Buckeye fan.Tom is survived by sisters Lula Polezoes of Clifton Park, NY and Taffy Valassis of Wheat Ridge, CO; nieces Betsy DAnnibale of Clifton Park, NY and Ellen Wallack of Baltimore, MD; great niece Sarah Wallack; great nephew John DAnnibale and special friends Robert Smith and Mark and Sue Antolik.He was preceded in death by his father Spero in 1972, mother Helen in 1997 and a brother Ted in 2011.Friends will be received Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of a noon service at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Reverend June Hardy Dorsey, rector of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, will officiate.Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
