Paul Schmidt Obituary
Paul J. Schmidt, Sr., 79, of Elyria, passed away peacefully November 16, 2022. He was born November 29, 1942 in Elyria and spent his life serving the Lorain County area. While in high school, he worked with his father, George, in the family meat market in Elyria and for several years at American Ship Building Company in Lorain. He was also co-owner of Schmidt’s Hayseed Tavern, North Ridgeville and owner of Schmidt’s Hayseed Lounge, Sheffield and served as the Lorain County Liquor Dealer President. After leaving the tavern business, he sold cars for Spitzer Automotive in Grafton and Sliman’s Sales and Service in Amherst. He retired to spend time at home with his favorite person, Trudy. Other interests included golf, auto racing, gardening and yard work. Paul attended Midview High School and was a graduate of Elyria High School. He loved and adored his high school sweetheart and wife of fifty eight years. Together they had four children to cherish his memory. Shelley (Rick) Merkin, Paul (Lorri) Schmidt, Jr., Kevin Schmidt and Brian (Tonya) Schmidt; grandchildren, Brandon and Kyle Merkin, Andrew and Alex Schmidt, Breana (Dennis) Quimper and Drew and Griffin Schmidt; great grandchildren, Paxton, Lilah, Rhemi and Rowan Quimper. Also surviving are cousins, Marge Renney and Nancy (Mark) Tite-Cochran; niece, Lisa Ryan and his devoted puppy, Rocky. In addition to his wife Trudy (nee Burnett), who died January 25, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Martha Schmidt brother, Bill; nephew, Randy and numerous aunts and uncles. Friends will be received Tuesday November 22, 2022 from 11:00 AM until the time of a 1:00 PM service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Reverend Rick Keesee, Pastor of Midway Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Butternut Ridge Cemetery, Eaton Township.
