Paula K. Pal AuWerter (nee Krukenberg), 86, of Oberlin, died March 29, 2012 at Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin.She was born November 24, 1925 in Cleveland, grew up in Shaker Heights and was a competitive ice dancer at The Cleveland Skating Club. Paula graduated from Hathaway Brown in Shaker Heights and The Ogontz School in Philadelphia. She moved to Elyria in 1957 and for the past ten years, has been a resident of Kendal at Oberlin.Paula had been active with her husband in his business at the Quarry in Coshocton and later at Auwerters Office Outfitters in Elyria. She was one of the founding families of Lake Ridge Academy, a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ and a former member of Elyria Country Club. She enjoyed knitting and had won awards at state competition for her needlepoint and she was also known for her knitted youth sweaters. She was an avid bridge player and for several years had managed the gift shop at Kendal at Oberlin.Paula is survived by sons Frederick W. (Carol) AuWerter of Deerfield, Illinois and David S. (Kay) AuWerter of Brecksville, Ohio; daughter Susan P. AuWerter of Portland, Oregon and grandchildren Paul and John AuWerter and Melissa and Daniel AuWerter.She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick E. in 1997 and parents Paul and Helen Krukenberg.The family will receive friends at a reception Sunday, April 1, 2012 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Heiser Lounge at Kendal at Oberlin.A graveside service will be Monday, 2:00 p.m. April 2, 2012 at Riverside Cemetery, I-71 and W25th Street, Cleveland with Reverend Christina Kukuk officiating.Memorial contributions may be made to Kendal at Oberlin Residents Assistance Fund, 600 Kendal Dr., Oberlin, OH 44074 or American Heart Association, 1689 East 115th Street, Cleveland, OH 44106-3988.
