Philip Sukel Obituary
Philip A. Sukel, 63, of Grafton Township, died, Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at The Cleveland Clinic. He was born September 4, 1948 in Lorain, was a 1966 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst and was a US Navy veteran. Phil was employed for 31 years as a heavy equipment operator at US Steel Lorain Works, retiring in 2002 and was a member of Steel Workers Local # 1104. He was also the former owner and operator of Sukel & Sons Waterhauling. After retiring he worked as a medical courier and an election poll worker. For 15 years he was a firefighter/EMT with the Grafton Township Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and had been a manager for youth baseball. He had an outgoing personality and enjoyed talking with people. Phil is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley A. (nee: Magyar); sons, Christopher J. Sukel (Jeanette Hornby) and Scott A. Sukel (Krista Swanger); and a grandson, David P. Sukel all of Grafton Township; brothers, Gerald of Fox River Grove, Illinois and James of Lorain; sisters, Patricia Roushton of Lorain and Jane Chawansky of Louisville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Dorothy Sukel; brother, Ronald and a grandson, Alexander.Friends will be received September 18, 2011 Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time of a 4:00 PM service at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Reverend Charles J. Ryba will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to The Grafton Township Rescue Squad, 17109 South Avon Belden Road, Grafton, OH 44044.
