Philip J. Lodge, 88, of Elyria, died September 10, 2013 at Wesleyan Village.He was born November 3, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA, was a 1942 graduate of Amherst Central High School, Amherst, OH and has been a sixty-three year resident of Elyria. .During World War II, Phil served in the United States Navy as an aircraft machinist on the aircraft carrier Tulagi in the Asiatic-Pacific and African European Middle Eastern Theaters. He had been employed at Nordson Corporation and Elmer Hume, Inc. and founded H & L Construction Company, which he owned and operated for 20 years. After retiring, he and his wife traveled extensively and spent the winters in Florida. He was a member of Black River Stamp Club, Pinecrest Shooting Preserve and was a lifetime member of the N.R.A... He had been a charter member of Community United Methodist Church and was a member and former trustee of First United Methodist Church. He was active with the Buckeye Tramblers, Lamplighters and was past president of Hollyhoedowners Square Dance Club.Philip is survived by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis M. (nee Fey); daughters Barbara (James) Hudak and Sandra (Dale) Dean, both of Clarksville, GA and Lori (Ryan) Cooke of Canton, OH; son David (Lori) Lodge of Kenesaw, GA; ten grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brothers Floyd (Gunver) Lodge of Amherst and Bernard (Chris) Lodge of Fayetteville, PA and a sister Clara Lodge of Lorain.He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Mary Lodge; sisters Sr. Mary Edna (Anna Lodge), Elsie Miller and Florence Brown and a brother Harvey Lodge.Friends will be received Friday, September 13, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A funeral service will be Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Dalton D. Love officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion, OH.
