Phyllis Giesel (nee Weaver) went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 20, 2022. Phyllis was born October 8, 1925, in the Latimer homestead in Litchfield, Ohio. (This historical home burned to the ground in 2010.) She then lived in the town of Grafton and moved to LaGrange in 1930. Phyllis was the last surviving graduate of the LaGrange High School class of 1943. There she earned her school letter as a varsity cheerleader. Phyllis was employed at Neisner Bros, The Style Center, General Industries, Ridge Tool in Elyria, and Big Town, Wholesale World and Hills in North Ridgeville. She was a member of First Baptist Church of LaGrange, serving as a Sunday School teacher of primary and later the high school age group. Phyllis also taught an evening group of children called BYPU, Baptist Young Peoples Union, and served as president of the Ladies Evening Missionary Group for a number of years. In the 1960’s she became a member of First Baptist Church of Elyria where she again served as a Sunday School teacher and taught an evening group of young people. Phyllis’s hobbies included reading the Bible and Christian fiction, correspondence, bicycling, teaching and playing indoor and outdoor games with her grandchildren. She corresponded with one pen pal, Margery Kahl Munger beginning in 1941, meeting Margery in person three times over the years. She had one special friend, Jean Miller Rising from the day Phyllis moved to LaGrange. Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Rebecca (Michael, deceased) Petruna, Pamela Owen, Christine (Richard) Bowers and son Timothy (Linda) Giesel. Ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Forest and Velda Weaver Fox, her step father Rupert Fox, her husband of 66 years, Richard Giesel, brother Forest V. Weaver, an aviation radioman in the Navy AirForce, killed in action in the South Pacific in 1943 at the age of 19, half-sisters, Wilma Rensberger, Annabel Hildebrandt, Loyal Williams, and Esther Janet Benner, and a half brother Leslie B. Weaver. Friends will be received Monday October 24, 2022 from 12:30 until 2:00 at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A private graveside service for the family will follow at River Road Cemetery in LaGrange with her grandson, Pastor Tyler Giesel officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Elyria, 11400 LaGrange Rd., Elyria, OH 44035 or to First Baptist Church of LaGrange, P.O.
