Phyllis Joan Gales' Obituary
Phyllis Gales Obituary
Phyllis Joan Gales of Westerville, Ohio passed away peacefully Saturday December 4, 2021 surrounded by family at the age of 92. Phyllis lived the majority of her life in Elyria, Ohio. Phyllis’s greatest love was her Family, including: two sisters, two brothers, six children, as well as many, many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and even four Great, Great Grandchildren. She often joked that she was never great at anything until she became a Great Grandma. Phyllis, Sister, Mom, Grandma, GG, Aunt Phyllis, Friend. She was known by many names to many people. No matter how you referred to her, all that knew her, loved her, and will never forget the great impact that she had on all of their lives. Phyllis was born February 19, 1929 in McClellandtown, PA to Edna and Lee Sharpnack. She was the second youngest of five children. She and husband George Gales, and two children, moved to Elyria, Ohio in 1951 after the war. They had four more children, who wanted for nothing, and that is where she remained primarily until 2020 when she moved to Westerville. Phyllis worked for the A&P for 27 years and then the Department of Social Services for 6 years. She and George retired to Florida for a few years before moving back to Elyria to be nearer to her family and friends. Phyllis was a longtime member of the Elyria Senior Women’s Fellowship Club where she served as Vice President for several years. She lived independently and on her own terms until the day she passed into heaven. She had the most beautiful hair, perfectly put together outfits, infectious smile, wittiest sense of humor, the cleanest house and made the best mashed potatoes and chocolate chip cookies of anyone who ever lived. The night before Phyllis passed, she had volunteered for the Westerville Senior Center’s Snowflake Castle helping children color Christmas pictures before they got their photo taken with Santa. She will be among the busiest and most beloved angels in Heaven, just as she was here on Earth. Phyllis is survived by sons, Terry (Anna) of Anderson, SC, Scott (Pokey) of Westerville, OH, Tracy (Margaret) of Glenside, PA and Todd (Kyung) of Elyria; son in law, Tony Suta; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, George in 2004; son, Troy; daughter, Joyce Suta; granddaughter, Vicki Suta; grandson, Terry Gales; great grandsons, Terry Gales III, Jessy Gales and Brian Springer; brothers, Louis and Donald Sharpnack; and sisters, Lois McVey and Beverly Cochrane. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of donor’s choice. Friends will be received Wednesday, December 8, 2021 from 3:00 pm until the time of a 5:00 pm service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Masks are suggested.
