R. Howell Obituary
R. David Howell, 78, of Vermilion, died October 2, 2019 following a lengthy illness in the company of his family. He was born February 25, 1941 in Jackson, Ohio and was a 1958 graduate of Elyria High School. Dave was a veteran of the United States Army from 1963 to 1965, serving in Vietnam. He was formerly employed as a wood pattern maker for Precision Mold & Pattern Company, Avon Lake retiring in 2009. His interests included golf, bowling, working in his yard, wood working, and he was a collector of Department 56 Christmas Villages. His favorite past time was spending time with his grandson whether it was vacationing or golfing. Dave is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara A. (nee Huffman); daughter, Stephanie Thomas of Elyria; son, Scott Howell of Vermilion; grandson, Tim Thomas of Elyria; brother James Howell of Dayton; and his dog, Ollie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Vera Howell; sisters, Mary Lynn Archer and Jane Tamar Bergman; and a brother, Harry “Buck” Howell, Jr. Friends will be received Tuesday, October 8, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Military honors will be presented by Elyria VFW #1079 at 5:00 pm in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
