Rachel Allen Obituary
Rachel W. Allen (nee Winsor), 95, of Elyria, died June 21, 2020 at The Abbewood where she has been a resident for the past 2 years. She was born December 23, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio and was a 1942 graduate of Elyria High School. In 1944, she graduated from Southern Seminary Junior College in Buena Vista, VA. After graduation, she traveled to Tokyo, Japan where she worked in cryptography with General Douglas MacArthur in the Daiichi Seimei Building, General Headquarters of the Occupation. For many years, she enjoyed spending the winters with her husband in Venice, FL. Other interests included golf, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, bridge, and spending afternoons with good friends. Rachel is survived by sons, Douglas (Sharon) Allen of Elyria, David (Lisa) Allen of Grafton and Barry (Cindy) Allen of Elyria; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Edward M. “Doc” Allen in 2004; parents, Quincy and Doris Winsor; and a sister, Millicent Chrisman. Friends will be received Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from noon until the time of a 1:00 pm memorial service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Reverend Dr. Janet A. Long will officiate. COVID-19 precautions will be observed.
