Ralph E. CheneyRalph E. Cheney, 79, of Elyria, passed away April 4, 2018 at his home after a long battle with COPD. He was born March 19, 1939 in Lorain, Ohio to Robert S. and Edna C. (nee: Stineman) Cheney. Ralph grew up in Elyria and was a 1958 graduate of Elyria High School. While in high school he began working for Fanny Farmer Candy and then as a delivery person for Ryan Appliance. He had also been employed at Haury Brothers Gas Station at the corner of 4th Street and East Avenue and later owned and operated his own service station, Ralph’s Pure Oil, on East Broad Street. He was later employed at Gilford Instruments in Oberlin, Ohio for thirty three years through several owners as a shipping clerk and traffic manager and was one of the last ones out the door when the company closed in 2001. Ralph enjoyed gardening, camping, model trains and reading the grocery ads in anticipation of a trip to the grocery store.Ralph is survived by his wife, Margaret (nee: Lance) whom he married November 26, 1960 in Elyria. They were happily married for fifty seven years; son, James S. (Patty Linden) of Elyria; daughters, Catherine (Brad) Isenhart of Akron and Jennifer (Chris Ruggles) of Elyria; grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica Wright both of Elyria, Julia Wright of New London; Jacob (Morgan), Hannah, Cora, Emily and Benjamin Isenhart all of Akron and Joshua Roland of Elyria. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Eric, Madeline and Cameron and a fourth great grandchild, due July 2018; sister, Carolyn Graham; brother, Jerry (Denice) Cheney both of Elyria and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Robert C. and Donald L. Cheney.Friends will be received Sunday April 8, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A service will be Monday April 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Reverend Jeff Sweitzer officiating. Burial will be in New Russia Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44110, Ohio Genealogical Society, 611 State Route 97 West, Bellville, OH 44813 or a charity of choice.
