Raymond T. Adams, 82, of Elyria, died peacefully July 26, 2014 at home surrounded by his family.He was born October 27, 1931 in Cleveland. Ray served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and fought in the battle at Chosin Reservoir, Korea.For 20 years, Ray was employed as the Church Grounds and Building Supervisor for St. Mary Church, Elyria and also as Building and Grounds Supervisor for Oberlin City Schools. In 1989, Ray and his wife Ruth moved to Newport, Rhode Island, where he was a caretaker to a private estate.Ray was a member of both St. Mary Church and St. Agnes Church in Elyria. And 30 years ago he began St. Mary Hot Meal Program which is still serving the community today. He dedicated many years as a volunteer with area hospices and the Disaster Response Team of American Red Cross. Ray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth (nee Raynor); daughters Pegg Vanek D.D.S. (Ron Lehnowsky D.D.S.) of Grafton, Raejean (Tom) Presgraves of Frederick, MD, Donna (Jim) Pember of Portsmouth, RI and Cheri (Scott) Hilenski of Amherst; sons Jim (Carol) Adams of Waynesboro, PA and John (Sarah, M.D.) Adams of Hudson, OH; twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and brothers Joe and Bill Adams.He was preceded in death by parents George P. and Mary G. Adams and five brothers and sisters.Friends will be received Sunday, August 3, 2014 from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 P.M. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A funeral mass will be Monday, August 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. Reverend Charles T. Diedrick, Reverend Paul Wysocki and Reverend Thomas J. Hagedorn will be concelebrants. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Hot Meal Program, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria, OH 44035.
