Rena McCray Obituary
Rena Marie McCray (nee Matheny), 88, of North Ridgeville, died June 1, 2021, at O’Neill Healthcare, North Ridgeville after a lengthy illness. Rena was born February 8, 1933 in Nitro, West Virginia, the daughter of Roy and Ruby Matheny (nee Mitchell). She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, aunt, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend. Rena was a 1951 graduate of Nitro High School and married her beloved late husband of 67 years Hampton Brooks McCray of Webster Springs, West Virginia. Her interests included family, music, genealogy, church, and home. She was a member of Abbe Road Baptist Church, Elyria. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Roy Matheny; brothers, Rex and Ronald Matheny; and a sister, Reta Pauley. Rena is survived by sons, Michael McCray and wife, Peggy (nee Collar) of Elyria, David McCray and wife, Eileen (nee Sabo) of Wellington, Paul McCray of Strongsville; granddaughters, Rena McCray and Hannah McCray, grandsons; David McCray Jr. and Colin Herb; and a great-granddaughter Anastasia Bella Herb. A memorial service will be Sunday, June 13, 2021, at 1:30 P.M. at Abbe Road Baptist Church, 670 N Abbe Rd, Elyria, OH, 44035, with Pastor Cal Searles presiding. Interment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elyria.
