Richard A. Pember, 50 of Elyria, a loving companion, father, grandfather, son and brother, died suddenly March 21, 2012. He was born April 21, 1961 in Elyria and was a 1979 graduate of Keystone High School and Lorain County JVS. He served with the United States Navy as a Seabee from 1981 to 1989 and achieved the rank of Builder First Class. He had lived in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin for 24 years before returning to Elyria in 2010 and was a former long time resident of LaGrange Township.Rich was a union carpenter, employed as Construction Superintendent at various construction companies, most recently at Delta T Construction in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was a member of VFW #1079 and AmVets #32 in Elyria and Lorain County Beekeepers Association. Rich was knowledgeable in a variety of topics and always had a story to tell or a song to sing. He had a unique sense of humor was willing to lend a helping hand or kind word to friends and strangers alike. He was an avid biker, hunter, fisherman and had won awards for archery and sharp-shooting.Richard is survived by his fiance, Connie Sanders of Elyria; daughter Katherine E. Cotto (Jose) of Waukegan, Illinois; sons Jeremy M. and Jacob M. Pember, both of Elyria; mother and step-father, Darlene (nee Hambly) & Richard Varner of LaGrange Township; sister Ann Cunningham (Sonny) of Augusta, Georgia; brother James Pember (Donna) of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; step-brother, Dean Varner of Lorain and three grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his father, Richard W. in 1973.Friends will be received Sunday, Mar. 25, 2012 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A funeral service will be on Monday, Mar. 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Robert Gross officiating and Elyria V.F.W. #1079 conducting military honors.
