Richard Wilbert Obituary
Richard P. Wilbert, 74, died September 13, 2011 surrounded by his family at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain, Ohio. He was born August 3, 1937 the second son of Stella Borow and John F. Wilbert, II. He joined the Ohio National Guard serving with the 357 ORD Company from 1956-1960 and was stationed for a time at Fort Knox, Kentucky.In 1960 he worked as a switchman for the New York Central Railroad.After that, Richard was for many years a milkman driving truck number three for the Sunshine Farms Dairy in Elyria. He joined the City of Elyria work force in 1968 where he worked at the Elyria City Water Works Pumping Station in Lorain for 20 years. In 1988 he transferred to the Elyria City Utilities Department and in 1993 he joined the City Sewer Department. Richard retired from the City of Elyria in 1998. In retirement Richard, along with Linda enjoyed maintaining their home, gardening, traveling, attending concerts and visiting with family and friends.He was a 50 plus year member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Elyria and life-long resident of Elyria.Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Sheldon Wilbert, children: Brad S. Wilbert of Elyria, the Rev. Dr. Brian K. Wilbert (Yorki Encalada) of Oberlin, DeidreAnn Hawkins (Bruce) of Elyria and Richard A. Wilbert (Kristin) of Lorain. Richard was affectionately known as Grumpa to ten grandchildren: Jessica L. Newton (Eric), Richard C. Wilbert, Harold F. Wilbert, Nicole M. Wilbert, Joseph D. Wilbert, Chistina L. Wilbert, Erica A. Hawkins, Emily C. Hawkins, Kennedy F. Wilbert andKristopher D. Wilbert; and seven great-grandchildren: Bryce A. Newton, Lillian N. Schwartz, Brayden A. Newton, Blake C. Shawkey, Cianna M. Wilbert, Brennen A. Newton and Neveah M. Wilbert. He is also survived by his faithful four footed canine companion, Oskar.Richard was preceded in death by his parents and older brother John F. Wilbert, III.Friends will be received Friday, September 16 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria, Ohio. A funeral service will be Saturday, September 17th 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 300 Third Street, Elyria, Ohio with the Reverend Catherine L. Wright presiding assisted by the Reverend Deacon Jane Trager, the Reverend Margaret DAneri, the Reverend Dr. Nancy Roth and the Reverend Dr. Brian K.
