Richard Scott Tear of Vermilion, Ohio passed away peacefully March 14, 2017 at the age of 60, from a long illness. He is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Diane, sons Ben of Oakland, California, Karl of New Orleans, Louisiana, sister Sue of Longview, Washington, brother Jim of Amherst, Ohio, and a large extended, loving family. Rick was preceded in death by his parents Philip and Phyllis Tear of Oberlin, Ohio. Rick was born November 10, 1956 in Youngstown, Ohio and spent his childhood in Poland, Ohio and Oberlin, Ohio. He attended the University of Denver for two years and later graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Political Science and English. In his youth, he worked at the Oberlin Golf Club, tended bar, drove a taxi, and managed the kitchen in his fraternity house. He found his calling when he began working with developmentally challenged adults at Murray Ridge Center where he took on many roles over his thirty year career. Rick enjoyed watching old movies, traveling, walking along the shores of Lake Erie, golfing, and running in his younger years. He was a Cleveland Browns season ticket holder, an avid reader, had a passion for cooking and music and enjoyed coaching recreational baseball for both of his sons. A graveside service in the celebration of Rick’s life will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Westwood Cemetery in Oberlin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lorain County Metroparks.
