Robert E. Carroll, 85, of Elyria, died suddenly December 4, 2015.He was born September 10, 1930 in Roebling, New Jersey, where he lived until moving in 1974. For fourteen years, he was a member of the United States Air Force, serving on a twin engine aircraft during the Berlin Airlift. He received his honorable discharged as a staff sergeant in 1961. Robert was employed for 16 years at General Motors Fisher Body in Elyria, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed the Jersey Shore, deep sea fishing, visiting casinos and the Atlantic City Boardwalk. He had been a faithful donor to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.Robert is survived by stepdaughter, Mary Ann Seymore of Elyria; grandchildren, George (Randi) Rose, Darlene (Ray) Straka, Brian (Connie) Rose, Tammie (Joe) Kristoff and Vincent (Kelly) Rose; twelve great grandchildren and a sister, Catherine (Eddie) Wilkins of Burlington, NJ.He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Mildred V. Carroll in 2001; parents, Patrick and Helen Carroll; brothers, Joseph, Thomas and Louis Carroll and sisters, Patricia Plytas and Mary Ann Carroll.Friends will be received Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A military graveside service will be Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
