Robert E. Fitzgerald, Sr., 89, of Elyria, passed away peacefully February 14, 2016 with his family by his side.He was born February 27, 1926 in Charlottesville, Virginia and has been a resident of Elyria since 1954. During World War II, Bob served with the United States Navy in the South Pacific.Robert started his career in the trucking business in 1968; know today as Fitzgerald and Son Trucking, and retired at the age of 83. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren and he also enjoyed working outdoors, including landscaping.Robert is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marian (nee Cash); son Robert E. (Virginia) Fitzgerald, Jr. of Grafton; grandchildren; Melissa and Christina Looney, Robert E. (Amber) Fitzgerald, III and Jonathan (Katie) Fitzgerald and great grandchildren; Jordan, Bailee, Andrew, Rya and Jax.He was preceded in death by his daughter Patsy Looney in 1991; granddaughter Lorie Fitzgerald in 2000; a sister Bessie Cumbow in 2000 and parents Homer and Irene (nee Rector) Fitzgerald.Friends will be received Friday, February 19, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria.
