Robert Tschanen Bowman, 94, of Elyria, died March 5, 2020 at Symphony at Olmsted Falls. He was born March 2, 1926 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio and was a 1944 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School. From 1944-1946, Bob served with the United States Navy and then graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. He attended George Washington University Law School, Washington D.C., and was also a graduate of Stonier School of Banking, Rutgers State University. From 1974-1998, he was President and CEO of PremierBank and Trust (Lorain County Bank, Elyria). He had previously been associated with the United States Department of Labor in Toledo, People’s Savings Bank of Van Wert, and First National Bank of Findlay. During his professional career he served terms as Treasurer and Board member of the Ohio Bankers Association and as Board member with the American Bankers Association. His community service affiliations included, Director and President of the Board of Trustees of Elyria Memorial Hospital, Director and President of United Way of Greater Lorain County, President of the Commerce and Industry Association of Greater Elyria, and past Director of the Community Foundation of Lorain County. Bob was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Upper Sandusky. In 1956, he joined Rotary Club in Van Wert, Ohio and continued membership throughout his life, serving multiple officer roles, including past president of Elyria Rotary Club and was a member of Elyria Elks Lodge #465. Bob is survived by daughters, Sarah (Robert) Toman of Cleveland, Edith (Tom) Frankenfield of Toledo, Julia (Phil Parsons) Bowman of Mt. Airy, MD, and Emily (Thomas) Johnson of Chevy Chase, MD; grandchildren, Samuel (Kellie) Posey, Hannah Posey, Katharine Tschanen (Dale) Gobel, Oliver Moreland Johnson and Jessica Presutto; great-grandchildren, Lukas Posey and Logan Posey; and a sister, Dorothy Pagnard of Upper Sandusky. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Juanita Bowman (nee Miller) in 2000 and his second wife, Lois Gunning Bowman in 2018; parents, Thomas M. and Louise (nee Tschanen) Bowman; sisters, Martha Bowman and Alice Nye; and a brother, Thomas Bowman. Friends will be received Monday, March 9, 2020 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 1:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 129 W. Johnson Street, Upper Sandusky with Reverend Kenneth E. Wessler officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Upper Sandusky.
