Robert W. Dupont's Obituary
Robert Dupont Obituary
Robert W. Dupont, 72, of Elyria, passed away in the early hours of March 23, 2021, at home with his family at his side after a courageous 14 month battle against cancer. He was born January 21, 1949 in Dayton, Ohio to Robert F. and Marnell (nee Ratchford) Dupont. Bob was a 1968 graduate of Fairmont West High School in Kettering Ohio. He attended BGSU where he earned a Bachelor of Science Business degree. He was in real estate sales for 10 years, and then transitioned to insurance sales. He retired in 2000 after several years as an Allstate Sales Agent. It was at BGSU where he met his wife of 46 ½ years, Helen (nee Knoll) Dupont. Bob’s love of family was the center of his life. Whether it was birthdays, holidays, or special events, he loved to provide his popular ‘crescent roll cheesecake’ and frogmore stew. He was a constant presence at all of his children’s sports events and other activities. Bob and Helen liked to travel, including Alaska and Hawaii, often staying at B&B’s. With their children, they traveled to national parks, popular attractions (Indy 500 track, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Disney-Orlando, NASA Houston, Cedar Point, and much more). They finally got Bob to 'relax’ on the beach in Nags Head, NC, but he still explored the lighthouses (even climbing to the top of Hatteras!), sand dunes, and Wright Bros. Field in Kitty Hawk. He loved trains, planted over 25 varieties of hostas, maintained a koi pond with waterfall, collected sports memorabilia, and loved to bake! Bob loved all things sports. Growing up in the Dayton area, The Cincinnati Reds were his team. After moving to Elyria, he quickly became a Cleveland Indians fan, as well as Browns and Cavs. In 2009 and the next 9 years, he got his dream of going to Goodyear, AZ to watch the Indians at spring training. Bob loved college level sports, especially basketball. He is no doubt watching March Madness games right now! Above all, Bob loved local high school sports. He was a hug supporter of Elyria Pioneers in football, volleyball, basketball and girls’ softball. Bob was a member of the Elyria Eagles, Elyria Polish Club, American Legion Post 12, and Lorain Co. Historical Society. He played a huge role in naming Elyria Little League East after Elyria sports legend Vic Janowicz. Bob was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Elyria since 1979. He had served on Council, and partnered with Helen on Fellowship and Outreach Ministries. Bob is survived by wife Helen; daughter, Michelle (Michael) Carr of Sheffield Lake; sons, Jon of Elyria and Brett and daughter-in-law Jenny of Elyria; grandson, Dominic Dupont; sister, Judith Curtis of North Ridgeville; three brothers and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, John and Marie (nee Haas) Ratchford; brother-in-law, Dave Curtis; and nephew, Ben Westfall. Friends will be received Friday, March 26, 2021, from l:00 pm until the time of a 4:00 pm service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria with Pastor Laurie A. Miller officiating. Covid-19 precautions will be observed, masks required. A committal will be private.
