Roger Negin Obituary
Roger J. Negin, 76, of Elyria, died December 22, 2016 at Mercy New Life Hospice, Lorain. He was born November 7, 1940 in Lima, OH and was a 1958 graduate of Lima Senior High School. He attended The Ohio State University and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. His first employment was as a sports broadcaster at WMVR in Sidney, OH and then in advertising at WERT in Van Wert, OH. For 40 years, from 1965 to 2005, Roger was a sports writer for the Chronicle Telegram, where he made a positive impact on many coaches and athletes in the Lorain County area during that time.Honors he has received during his career include induction into the Ohio Prep Sports Writers HOF, Lorain County Football Coaches HOF and Lorain County Basketball Coaches HOF. He was honored with the Distinguished Service Award by the Elyria Sports HOF, an organization he served as Chairman in 1982. He is also a past president of the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association as well as having served two years as president of Elyria Little League North. Other interests included crossword puzzles/Sodoku, classic novels and American History. He followed college athletics, including the “Big Ten” and everything Ohio State, especially football. Roger is survived by his sons David K. (Jillian) Negin of Madison, OH and Daniel L. (Jodi) Negin of Marysville, MI; grandchildren Kacie, Kyle and Kalista Negin of Marysville, MI and Seth and Allyson Negin of Madison, OH; brother Harley (Judy) Negin of Saratoga, CA, father-in-law Everett H. Kirkhart of Elyria; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Walter T. and Janetta Owens of Elyria; nephew William T. Owens and nieces, Leila Nagel and Anaka Negin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Evelyn Sue Negin in 2014, parents Albert and Louise Negin, and mother-in-law Euma Kirkhart. . Friends will be received Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A service will be Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Elder Kirk Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
