Roland G. Sunagel, 84, of Elyria, died December 8, 2014 at University Hospitals EMH Regional Medical Center.He was born October 27, 1930 in Cleveland and was a 1948 graduate of Collinwood High School. He moved to Elyria from Avon Lake in 1960.During the Korean War, Ron served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Ajax. Ron was employed for 31 years in quality control at Ford Motor Company, Lorain, retiring in 1988. He was a 31 year member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Elyria; a life member of Elyria V.F.W. #1079; member of Elyria American Legion Post 12; Elyria Eagles 431 and a past commander of Avon Lake American Legion Post 211.For 25 years, he was a coach and manager at Elyria Little League West and North and was the manager of the Elyria Big League All Stars State Championship team in 1975. He was past co-chairman of the Elyria High Pioneer Club, enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and at the age of 66, bowled a 300 game.He enjoyed all sports and another of his interests was woodworking.Ron is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sue Carol (nee McCampbell) sons Steven (Patricia) of Amherst; Paul (Patti), Duane (Susan) and Bryan (Diane) Sunagel, all of Elyria; grandchildren Jonathan and Aleecia Sunagel, Erin and Blake Sunagel, Tony Hales, Ashley Graves and Angla Stanziano; great grandchildren Arilyne and Nevaeh and many nieces.He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Leona Sunagel, brother Harold Sunagel and a sister Lois Sunagel.Friends will be received Friday, December 12, 2014 from 4 to 7 P.M. at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A service will be Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home. Reverend Wayne Brass will officiate and Elyria V.F.W #1079 will present military honors. A private burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Purple Heart Homes, P.O. Box 5535 Statesville, NC 28687. www.phhusa.org.
