Roy E. BartholomewRoy E. Bartholomew, 89, of Carlisle Township died, November 25, 2017 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. He was born May 2, 1928 in Elyria and was a 1946 graduate of Oberlin High School. He received an associate degree from Lake Superior State University, formerly Michigan College of Mining and Technology in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. During the Korean War he served as Commander in The US Army Sixth Tank Battalion in Korea, attaining the rank of Staff Sargeant in twenty one months. Roy had been employed by Houghton Brothers in Oberlin as a young man for many years. He then was employed for thirty three years as a manager in engineering at Bendix Westinghouse retiring in 1988. During his career at Bendix he was granted ten patents including one that was instrumental in revolutionizing the automotive air brakes used today in many semi trucks. He is a member of Elyria American Legion Post 12, Oberlin Masonic Lodge No. 380, F.&A.M., Elyria Council No. 86, R.&S.M., Past High Priest Chapter No. 219 and Lyndon Chapter No. 361, O.E.S., LaGrange. Roy and his wife traveled extensively in the United States and overseas and enjoyed camping with his family at many destinations throughout the United States. Other interests were photography, woodworking and fly fishing in Alaska.Roy is survived by his wife of sixty four years, Violet E. (nee: Barson); daughter, Laurie (Harland) Bartholomew Holcomb; son, Roy K. Bartholomew of Lawton, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Christina Bartholomew and Lauren and Emily Holcomb and three great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Kirtland Powers.
