Russell Markel Obituary
Russell E. Markel, 78, of Elyria, died November 18, 2020 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. He was born August 1, 1942 in Elyria and from 1960-1962 served with the United States Army. For 40 years, Russell was employed as a truck driver at BFI, retiring in 2008. He was a founding member of Elyria Baptist Church and also a member of Elyria Moose Lodge and Elyria VFW #1079. He had enjoyed playing softball and working on cars. Russell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Karla E. (nee Huber); son, Russell E. Markel; daughter, Eva (Drew) Hill, both of Elyria; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Darlene Kovar. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Smith in 2019; parents, Russell and Mary Markel; brother, Lester Markel; and a sister, Jean Easterly. A private burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
