Ruth Knerien Obituary
Ruth C. Knerien (nee Hambley), 87, of Elyria, died January 15, 2017 at O’Neill Healthcare North Ridgeville. She was born December 14, 1929 in Elyria and has been a soldier in the Salvation Army all her life and a Senior Soldier for 70 years. Ruth was a Sunday School teacher and Home League secretary in addition to organizing the clothing room and teaching ceramics. For 17 years, she was employed as a Ward Secretary at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. Ruth was a former member of Daughters of America; enjoyed crocheting and reading and was known as “The Crocheting Queen” at O’Neill Healthcare. Ruth is survived by sons, David L. Knerien, Jr. of Orlando, FL, James D. Knerien of South Bend, IN; daughters, Jean M. Knerien of Cortland, Dawn E. (Charles) Vancs of Toledo, Diane E. (John) Piatt of Belleville, IL and Barbara J. (Robert) Foos of Warren; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and a sister, Phyllis Flanagan of Phillippi, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, David L. Knerien in 2005; son, Mark D. in 2007; daughter, Linda R. Petroff in 2008; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; her parents James and Ethel Hambley; brothers, James and Robert Hambley; sister, Jeanette Miller Babb and foster son, Daniel Raven. Friends will be received Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria. A service will be Friday, January 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Elyria Salvation Army, 716 Broad St., Elyria. Major Robert Sears will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army.
