Ruth Schwaegerle Obituary
Ruth C. Schwaegerle, 96, of Oberlin, formerly of Elyria, passed away February 12, 2017 at Kendal at Oberlin. She was born Ruth C. Flick, fifth in a family of eight children, July 25, 1920 in Cincinnati, OH and moved with her husband to Elyria in 1946 where she spent many years actively involved in the community. She was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church, League of Women Voters, United Women’s Fellowship, and American Theater Chorus. In 1970, she joined the Oberlin Friends Meeting, a local Quaker fellowship, and remained a devoted member until her death. In 1993, she and her husband were prominent in the founding of Kendal at Oberlin retirement community where she later was active on several residents' committees and in the Kendal art community. She became active in the Oberlin Heritage Center and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2005 and retired as Emeritus Trustee. She is remembered for her energy, openness to learning and growth, and her warm, compassionate interest in and concern for all. Ruth is survived by her husband of 74 years, Edward; sister, Marian Hartmann of Cincinnati; son, Kent of San Diego; and her brother-in-law and his wife, Paul and Cate Schwaegerle, residents at Kendal at Oberlin. A memorial service will be 2:00 PM February 25, 2017 at Kendal at Oberlin, 600 Kendal Dr., Oberlin, OH 44074. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elyria.
