Ruth E. Adams (nee Swisher), 88, of Elyria, died July 23, 2016 at Wesleyan Village, Elyria. Born July 8, 1928 in Mansfield, Ohio, she was a 1946 graduate of Madison High School where she was active in musical and dramatic activities, as well as being named outstanding girl athlete for her class. She went on to attend Bowling Green State University, studying Home Economics, and graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She taught in several school systems throughout Ohio, including Hayesville, Austintown, Mentor, and Elyria. She remained a lifelong member of the Ohio State Teachers Association.In 1950, Ruth married Rev. Don R. Adams. They served together in churches in the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church and enjoyed being part of many loving congregations. She remained an active member of First United Methodist Church of Elyria. After retirement, Ruth and Don lived in Lakeside, Ohio for eight years, returning in 1999 to Wesleyan Meadows in Elyria. For the past 2 years, Ruth has been a resident of Wesleyan Village, where she has been a member of The Mary Lilly Society. She also served as a volunteer at Elyria Renal Care Group.Perhaps what Ruth will be most remembered for was her immense kindness, her ability to make everyone feel at ease and welcome, and her love and devotion to her family. Survivors include her sister, Marilyn Clever, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, daughters Linda Adams of Westerville and Susan Adams of Portsmouth, RI, son, Richard Adams of Contoocook, NH, granddaughter, Lauren Stone of Portsmouth, RI and nieces and nephews in Colorado and Arizona.She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Rev. Don R Adams in 2003 and parents, J.J. and Opal (nee Robinson) Swisher.A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 3:00pm in the Cascade Room at Wesleyan Village, 807 West Avenue, Elyria with Rev.
