Ruth E. Bailey (nee Niehaus), 91, formerly of Grand Rapids, MI, died February 6, 2016 in Lorain, OH.Ruth was born November 18, 1924 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Harold and Edna Niehaus (nee Vanderlaan) and lived within a few miles of her childhood home most of her life. She was a graduate of Creston High School, attended Davenport College and worked at Consumers Power Company. In January 1946, she began dating Bernard Bailey who had recently returned from serving in WWII. They were married September 1948 and lived in Ann Arbor during his senior year at University of Michigan, during which time Ruth worked at a finance company. After Bernies graduation, they returned to Grand Rapids where Ruth enjoyed being a homemaker and volunteer while raising their two daughters. She was active in the Molly Booth Guild at Butterworth Hospital and also enjoyed being involved in various guilds at Faith Lutheran Church. Throughout their 67 year marriage, Ruth and Bernie loved being together, living in the north end of Grand Rapids and spending time with family and friends.Ruth is survived by daughters Lynne (John) Lampert of Lorain, OH and Jayne (Edmund) Messina of Haslett, MI; grandchildren Timothy, Laura (Megan), Daniel (Jodie), Jill (Kyle) and Marc (Jessica) and great grandchildren Natalie and Nathan.She was preceded in death by her husband; parents and a brother, Warren Niehaus. All services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 2740 Fuller Ave. N.E. Grand Rapids, MI 49505 or Mercy New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Rd., Lorain, OH 44053.
