Ruth J. Skladan (nee: Schwan), 76, of Elyria died July 4, 2017 in her home. She was born November 9, 1940 in Lorain and was a graduate of Lorain High School, class of 1959-A where she was a member of the orchestra, band and was a majorette. In 1962 she graduated as a Registered Nurse from Riverside Hospital School of Nursing, Toledo, Ohio. Ruth was formerly employed at Lake County Hospital, Willoughby, Elyria Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital, Lorain and as a Public Health Nurse for the Elyria City Health District, retiring in 2007.She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Elyria where she was a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, was a lector, Eucharistic Minister and a member of the pastoral team. For many years, she sang in the Civic Chorale and sat on the Lorain County Board of Mental Health.Ruth is survived by her husband of fifty four years, Douglas G.; children, Mark D. Skladan, Catherine E. (John) Heck, Matthew A. Skladan and Elizabeth R. Thomas; grandchildren, Hannah, Noah, Tyler, Jeremiah, Savannah, Kaitlyn, Claire, Abigail and Carley; one niece; four nephews; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.She was preceded in death by her parents; Herold and Margaret Schwan and brothers, William H. and Carl L. Schwan.Friends will be received Sunday July 9, 2017 from 1:00 PM until the time of a 3:00 PM memorial service at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 300 Third Street, Elyria. Reverend June Hardy Dorsey, Rector will officiate. A handicap entrance is available from Holy Lane.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elyria.
