Salena Stefko Obituary
Salena Augusta Stefko (nee Bagley), 86, of Elyria, died December 27, 2019, after a long illness at Wesleyan Village in Elyria. She was born August 13, 1933, in Macon, GA, and was a long-time resident of Elyria. At one time, she worked as a secretary for the Lorain County Metropolitan Park District. Salena enjoyed being a mother and grandmother, homemaker, and cooking and baking for her family. She and her husband traveled the country extensively with their pop-up camper, visiting most of the lower 48 states. They particularly enjoyed camping and hiking in the National Parks. She was an avid and talented gardener, whose extensive perennial herb garden annually yielded enough crop for her to dry and can herbs for sharing with family and friends. Salena is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert G. Stefko; son, Robert L. (Shelby Kroeger) Stefko of Chicago, IL; daughter, Katherine A. (Chris Bakkila) Stefko of Brunswick, ME; grandchildren, Jasper and Betty Bakkila; and sisters, Dot Sawyer of Lake Butler, FL and Carolyn Carstensen of Riverside, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Ruth Bagley; and sisters, Mary Ruth, Naomi, Ruby, and Bonnie. Salena’s family would like to thank the nurses, aides, and other staff of Wesleyan Village, especially Marie and Molly, who provided excellent care to Salena. A private service for the family was Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria, with Reverend Kurt D. Walker, Chaplain of Wesleyan Village and Meadows, officiating. Burial was in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
