Mrs. Pitts was both my 3rd grade and 5th grade teacher. East Carlisle elementary in Elyria. I was a troubled soul. Multiple divorces and three schools by the time I entered 3rd. She gave me a voice. She cast me in the lead role of my 3rd grade ply and it gave me confidence. I was an undiagnosed ADD kid with autistic tendencies and no one knew. Not even me. Not my parents, no one. It was too early in its discovery but I was both troubled and gifted. She encouraged everything about the gifted side including art and a competitive spirit. She remains the greatest influence on my childhood and I owe her this tribute in more ways than just words. I’ll never forget her and what she did for me, although it took years for me to understand and appreciate the magnitude of what she did for me and the affect she had in my life. Thank you Miss Pitts. for everything. I know you’re gone, but not in my thoughts or memories. Chris Carmichael 3rd grade 1980, 5th grade 1982
My deepest sympathies to your family. I have very fond memories of working with Sandy at East Carlisle and Brush Schools and taking our 5th graders to camp every spring. She was a very creative and exciting teacher for her students.
Sandy and her parents lived next door to us for many years. She was a good friend. Sorry for your loss. She will be missed!
