Shirley Strickland Obituary
Shirley Ann Strickland, 76, of Big Prairie, Ohio and formerly of Lorain County, died, September 8, 2011 at Wooster Community Hospital in Wooster, Ohio. She was born June 10, 1935 in Sheffield and was an Elyria High School graduate. Shirley served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953-1956 and was then employed at Wooster Brush Company for 20 years, retiring in 1997. She was a breeder of mini dachshunds and co-owner of Haleland Kennels in Nova, Ohio. She enjoyed traveling in her recreational vehicle throughout the United States and was a member of RVing USA. Shirley is survived by a sister, Ruth (Loran) Danforth of Alva, Florida, beloved cousins, Walt and Barb Strickland, nephews, Herbert Strickland III, Tom (Robin) Strickland, niece, Cindy, dear friends, Mike and Carol Ohl and Melinda Brown and other nieces, nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Elma, brother, Herbert Jr., sister, Katherine and her longtime companion, Sue Hale.Friends will be received Monday from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. An 11:00 AM graveside service will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township with Reverend Robert Gross officiating.
