Shirley Coleman Obituary
Shirley J. Coleman (nee: Sands), 81, of Elyria, and formerly of Lorain, died January 17, 2014 at her home. She was born December 10, 1932 in Lorain, Ohio and was a 1951-A graduate of Lorain High School. She was employed for several years at US Steel and then for twenty five years at Lake Terminal Railroad, retiring December 10, 1997. Shirley had been a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Lorain. She enjoyed roller skating, reading, watching figure skating and was a television fan of Downton Abbey, Doc Martin and Blue Bloods. She was a frequent traveler to Las Vegas where her favorite pastime was playing the slot machines. Shirley is survived by daughters, Anne (David) Scott of Vermilion and Linda Hemlinger of Elyria; son, Dana Coleman of Elyria; grandchildren, Shawn and Jack Hemlinger and Michael Scott and a sister, Ruth Ellen Sands of Tampa, FL.She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Georgia Sands; sisters; Lydia Barber and Doris Heldreth and brothers, Richard, George, John, Charles and Robert Sands.Friends will be received Tuesday January 21, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
