Shirley Blaner Obituary
Shirley K. Blaner (nee Hahn), 88, of Elyria, died July 7, 2023, after a brief illness. She was born November 10, 1934, in Anderson, IN, attended Elyria High School where she met Joe Blaner and graduated Burbank High School, CA in 1953. Joe drove cross country to CA to marry her in May 1954. They were married 64 years, making their home in Elyria. She was a 20-year volunteer at Elyria Memorial Hospital Regional Medical Center with over 3,000 hours of service. Shirley was a member of Elyria Senior Women’s Fellowship and a previous employee of G.C. Murphy in North Ridgeville. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and working on cross stitch projects, many of which she framed and gifted to family and friends. Shirley spent many hours making beautiful pictures in complex coloring books. She also enjoyed playing bingo, cards and games and doing crossword puzzles. Taking pride in how she presented herself to the world, she started each day by doing her makeup and hair and selecting earrings to match her outfit for the day. Shirley adored her pets, especially her cat, Miss Kitty. She and her husband loved their 3 Schipperke dogs, Skipper, Yogi and Sammy. Shirley is survived by her children, Brenda (Rob) Brown of Elyria, Leah (Dennis) Huff of North Olmsted and Mike (Melissa) Blaner of LaGrange; grandchildren, Nick, Kevin (Katie), Kayla, Jesse and Ben and great-grandchild, Joey whom she first met last week. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe in 2018; baby son, Joey; grandson, Joe; sister, Barbara and parents, Casler and Georgia (nee Kimmerling) Hahn. A private graveside service will be 10:00 am Monday, July 17, 2023 at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain with Reverend Kathryn Ketchum officiating.
