Shirley Sprague Obituary
Shirley M. Sprague (nee Holt), 95, of Elyria, joined her husband in Heaven October 6, 2022. Born May 12, 1927 in Salem, OH, she was a 1945 graduate of Leetonia High School, a 1949 graduate of Wittenberg University and in 1982 received a Masters Degree from Kent State University. From 1966-1981, Shirley taught English at Elyria High School and at Lorain County Community College from 1982 until her retirement in 1997. She was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Elyria, singing in the choir and serving on the historical committee. She was also a member of The Four O’Clock Club, Lorain County Historical Society and a published author. Shirley is survived by sons, David (Karen) Sprague of Elyria, Gary (Cindy) Sprague of Sunbury, OH and Jim (Michele) Sprague of Sheffield Village; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert L. Holt of Leetonia, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Sidney E. in 2006; son, Kevin M. in 1995; and parents, Marcus and Florence Holt. Friends will be received Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 360 Princeton Avenue, Elyria with Reverend Tim Scholl officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township at a later date.
