Steve L. Lengel, 73, of Elyria, passed away peacefully October 6, 2015.Steve was born December 15, 1941 in Elyria and was a 1960 graduate of Elyria High School, where he played football, basketball, baseball and ran track. He graduated in 1964 from Ashland University, majoring in history/education and played football, basketball and baseball. He returned to his hometown to teach and coach in the Elyria City Schools, retiring after 33 years from Northwood Junior High School. In 1994, Steve was enshrined in the Elyria Sports Hall of Fame. He was a former member of Magyar United Church of Christ, an avid Cleveland sports fan and a coach to his sons and community kids for over 25 years. Steve was a passionate man who enjoyed spending time with his wife, golfing, exercising and watching his grandchildrens sporting events. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.Steve is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gayle S. (nee Slathe); sons Ray (Elizabeth) and Jack (Theresa); grandchildren Luke, Anna, Sam, Hannah, Olivia and Callie and a brother Ken (Lynn) Lengel.He was preceded in death by his parents Steve and Helen (nee Dohanos) Lengel.Friends will be received Friday, October 9, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria.A memorial service will be Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Harvest Ridge Church, 35600 Lorain Rd., North Ridgeville with Rev. Kevin L. Crow officiating. Private burial will be in Lakewood Park Cemetery, Rocky River.
