Steven A. Striegl, 63, of Elyria, died unexpectedly January 17, 2022. He was born February 9, 1958 in Seattle, WA. He received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Virginia Tech where he met his future wife, Jean, and received his master’s degree in 1982. He spent most of his younger years in Northern Virginia, having moved to Idaho for his first position with Bettis then was transferred to Pittsburgh. They lived in PA from 1988-2021, before moving to Elyria to be closer to his daughter and son in law. For 36 years, Steven worked for Betchel/Bettis in Pittsburgh, PA. He spent most of his career working on engineering aircraft carriers with one of his greatest achievements being H.W. Bush’s aircraft carrier which was completed in 2009. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hiking, climbing and caving. He spent years cycling rail trails with his wife and traveled across the country many times visiting 37 of the 63 national parks. Steven is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jean (nee Vetter); son, William Striegl; daughter, Elizabeth (Nathan Gillespie) Striegl; and siblings, Frank Striegl and Leslie Parker. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sheila (nee Southard) Striegl. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of the US National Parks or National Park Association.
