Susan Elizabeth Saunders' Obituary
Susan Saunders Obituary
Susan Elizabeth (nee Bartley) Saunders, 94, of Carlisle Township, passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side July 1, 2020. Sue was born January 21, 1926 in Perry, Texas to Robert and Laura Bartley. Sue was many things to many people: sister of Willie, Pete, Joseph and James; wife of Daniel Henry Saunders; mother of Danna Sue (Edward) Burmeister, Margaret (Alan) Roach and Kathlene (Thomas) Cikotte; grandmother of Bob, Bridget, Buffie, Brad, and Brent Burmeister, Tracy Sue and Matthew Roach, and Jessica and Thomas Cikotte; great grandmother of 16; and great-great grandmother to one on the way . In 1946, in Muskogee, Oklahoma she married Daniel Henry Saunders (passed in 2001). Dan became a career Air- Foremen. Consequently, Sue, Dan, and the girls lived in many places: Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio, Bermuda, Vermont, Greece and then back to Ohio in 1964. Once the girls were all “married off”, Sue and Dan moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 1973. They remained there for more than 35 years. A few years after Dan’s passing, she returned to Ohio to live with her daughter Margaret and her husband Alan, in Carlisle Township, Ohio. No matter where she lived, she loved and was loved by many. She had friends all over the world. Many of her newest friends were extensions of her church family, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grafton, Ohio. Although her focus was her family, she never overlooked her beginnings. Whenever her “Baby Brother” James and his wife Sue visited from Missouri, there was a joy that radiated from her. The bond from their humble beginnings was visible. Both of their Texas accents grew with every tale they shared about pick’en cotton and or peanuts for 10 cents a bushel. In her life of 94 years she experienced great happiness, challenges, sorrows, and towards the end of her life, ultimately, contentment. Sue’s kindness and humility allowed her to love and care for others without “sticking her nose where it didn’t belong” which was very important to her. She was talented, gifted at many things, and determined to do the best she could, no matter what she did. How very fortunate we have all been to have had her in our lives. Due to COVID -19, there will be a memorial service for her at a later time. Until then, we will polish our memories of her and wish her well on her latest move to a new and better place with God, knowing in our hearts that many have been patiently waiting for her.
