Sylvia Taylor Obituary
Sylvia C. Taylor, 88, of Elyria, died December 3, 2016 at Wesleyan Village, Elyria. She was born June 26, 1928 in Elyria and was a 1946 graduate of Elyria High School. In 1950, she graduated from The College of Wooster with a BA degree and a major in chemistry. From 1951 to 1990, she was employed at The Lewis Research Center of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, retiring as Chief of the Editorial Branch. After her retirement, she held the position of Secretary at the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio in Cleveland. Sylvia was a lifelong member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Elyria, where she was active in the Altar Guild, choir and had been a former Vestry member Senior Warden, lector and chalice bearer. She was former Elyria Branch President and Ohio Division Board Member of the American Association of University Women; member of the General Board and Executive Committee of the Ohio Council of Churches and a member of Elyria Chapter #165 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling, which included all but three states, trips to Mexico, Caribbean, Canada, the Orient, Europe and Russia. Other interests included reading, music, ballroom dancing and was a lover of cats. Sylvia is survived by several cousins and was preceded in death by her father, Earl C. Taylor in 1950 and her mother, Olga Taylor (nee Smith) in 1990. Friends will be received Tuesday December 6, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A service will be Wednesday December 7, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 300 Third St., Elyria. Reverend June Hardy Dorsey, Rector, will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church or Friendship Animal Protective League, 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria.
