Ted Valassis Obituary
Ted S. Valassis, 86, of Elyria, died suddenly Saturday, October 1, 2011. He was born January 26, 1925 in Elyria and was a 1943 graduate of Elyria High School. He attended The Ohio State University and graduated from Western Reserve University with a degree in marketing. During WWII he served in The 3rd Army, 249th Engineer Combat Battalion under General George S. Patton and fought at The Battle of the Bulge. Ted remained a patriot throughout his life. He was the first City of Elyria Income Tax Administrator from where he retired after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Elyria, St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Rocky River and a 50 year member of Elyria Lodge # 787 F&AM. Ted is survived by sisters, Lula Polezoes of Clifton Park, New York and Taffy Valassis of Wheat Ridge, Colorado; brother, P. Thomas Valassis of Elyria; nieces, Betsy DAnnibale of Clifton Park, New York and Ellen Wallach of Baltimore, Maryland; a great niece, Sarah and a great nephew John.He was preceded in death by his father, Spero T. in 1972 and his mother, Helen S. in 1997.Friends will be received Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A burial service will be Wednesday 10:00 AM at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria followed by an 11:00 AM memorial service at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 300 3rd Street Elyria. Reverend Catherine L. Wright will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church or St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
