Theodore R. Goodman, 94, of Carlisle Township passed away unexpectedly at his home Monday, May 9, 2022. He was born October 3, 1927 in Elyria and was a resident of Carlisle Township for the past 61 years. Ted graduated from Elyria High School in 1945 and the Oberlin School of Commerce in 1948. He retired after 42 years of service from Larson Foundry in Grafton where he was a purchasing agent and served as Secretary and Treasurer of the company. After retirement, he worked many years at Brentwood Golf Course in Grafton as a starter. Ted was an avid golfer and bowler, spent many hours doing crossword puzzles, followed Cleveland sports teams, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder and Treasurer for many decades. Ted served in the Army as a member of the US Occupation Forces in Germany from 1945 through 1947. He was a member of Elyria Legion Post 12. Ted was a longtime board member of the Lorain County Hot Stove League and coached Laporte Hot Stove teams for over 20 years. He was a charter member and officer of the Elyria Fisherman's Club, spending over two decades of family vacations at Dog Lake in Missanabie, Ontario. Ted is survived by his sons, Wayne (Martha) of Gaylord, Michigan, Craig of Carlisle Township; daughter-in-law Nadine Goodman of Vermilion; brother Tyler Goodman of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Mason, Bryce, Cassandra, Sean, Alexander, Zachary, Jacob and Parker and great grandchildren; Cooper, Theodore, Lily, Clara, Henry, William, Gwendolyn and Eva. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Shirley (nee Bursley); a son Terry; parents, Conrad and Emma (nee Bohacs); siblings, Emma Nelson, Albert Goodman, Virginia Stevenson, Marion Dobney and his companion of many years, Sarah Schnaufer. Friends will be received Friday, May 13, 2022 from 11:00 am until the time of a 12:00 pm noon service at St. John Lutheran Church, 1140 West River Road North, Elyria. Reverend William F. Mugnolo will officiate. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain where Elyria VFW Post #1079 will conduct military honors.
