Thomas Bolland Obituary
Thomas W. Bolland, 85, of Oberlin, passed away July 24, 2016 at the Health Center at Kendal at Oberlin.He was born September 5, 1930 in Western Hills of Cincinnati, OH and was a graduate of Western Hills High School. He received a Bachelor of business degree from the University of Cincinnati, after which he served as a Special Investigations Officer in the U.S. Air Force. Tom received a Master of Business Administration and a PhD from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He later became a Certified Public Accountant. Tom began his long teaching career at the State University of New York at Buffalo, then Dartmouth College as visiting faculty, and the University of New Hampshire. He spent 29 years teaching at Ohio University, Athens, including three times at the MARA Institute of Malaysia and three times in Hong Kong. Both were associated with Ohio University. Accounting, statistics and applied math were his specialties.He was a member of the high school swim team and enjoyed tennis, downhill skiing, mountain hiking and biking. Traveling all of the U.S. and all seven continents also gave him much pleasure.He is survived by his wife Janet and two sons, Tom C. (Susan) and Andrew S. (Linda); two granddaughters, Alexandria and Christina; sister, Audrey Boehringer and several nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at First Church in Oberlin, 106 North Main St. Oberlin. A reception will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Kendal at Oberlin. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elyria.
