Val Holdren's Obituary
Val Holdren Obituary
Val Holdren, 90, formerly of Lorain and a resident of Elyria most of her life, passed away peacefully December 28, 2020 after a brief illness with her family by her side. She was born March 16, 1930 in Lorain, one of nine children to George and Grace (nee Chapin) Pataky. She was a 1948B graduate of Lorain High School and while attending high school, worked as a short-order cook at Heilman’s on “The Loop” where the pancakes on the menu were known as “Val’s Pancakes”. After high school, she was employed at the restaurant inside the steel plant, at the time known as National Tube, where she met her husband, Bill. Val enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially to Amish country and attending dances together. She especially liked red flowers and working in her yard. For every holiday, she was known for decorating her home, inside and out. Val considered no one a stranger and her gift of conversation was shared with everyone she met. Well into her later years, she could out shop anyone! Val is survived by her loving daughter, Lori and wonderful son-in-law, Paul, whom she adored; step grandson, Ryan (Lyndee) Cook; step great-granddaughter, Brynlee, all of Elyria; sister, Emma Fischer of Lorain; brothers, Steve Pataky of North Ridgeville and John Pataky of Lorain; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bill in 2007; brothers, George and Joseph and sisters, Elvira, Nancy and Rosemary. Val’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses, STNA’s, OT’s, PT’s, and staff and administrators of O’Neill Healthcare in North Ridgeville who provided her with kind and compassionate care. Friends will be received Saturday, January 2, 2021 from 10:00 am until the time of an 11:00 am service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Reverend Kathryn Ketchum will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. COVID-19 precautions will be observed, face coverings are required. Flowers are welcome or a memorial contribution may be made to O’Neill Healthcare Scholarship Fund for eligible employees studying in healthcare related fields.
