Velma L. ElliottVelma L. Elliott (nee Pixley), 97, of Mooresville, NC and formerly of Elyria, died February 25, 2019. She was born August 25, 1921 in Elyria and was a 1939 graduate of Elyria High School. Velma worked in the family business, Elliott Greeting Card Company, and was then employed as head cashier for 20 years at EMH Regional Medical Center, retiring in 1986. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Elyria where she taught Sunday School and was treasurer of the Women’s Missionary Group. She was also a member of Lorain County Christian Women and was active in the Salvation Army Auxiliary and Elyria KiQueens.She was a seamstress, enjoyed quilting, and since moving to NC in 2012 enjoyed traveling. Velma is survived by daughters, Sandra Palmer of Mooresville, NC, Karen (Will) Klein of Atlanta, GA, and Debra (Tim) Kirkbride of Duluth, GA; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; step daughter, Diane (Dennis) Wiedenheft; of Oberlin and step son, David Elliott, of Amherst; sister, Shirley (Jim) Brand of Elyria; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Thurman T. Elliott, Jr in 1973, Myron T. Briggs in 1991, and Richard J. Elliott in 2010; infant son; sisters, Margaret Chandler and Alta Phillips; brother, Clyde Pixley; and her parents, Oscar and Marian (nee Vickery) Pixley.Friends will be received Sunday, March 3, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria, OH 44035. Friends will also be received, Monday, March 4, 2019 from 10:00 am until the time of the 11:00 am funeral service at First Baptist Church of Elyria, 11400 LaGrange Road, Elyria. Pastor Patrick Odle will officiate. A reception will follow the service at First Baptist Church of Elyria. Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Elyria, 11400 LaGrange Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
