Virginia I. DeFields (nee Leach), 90, of Elyria, died Saturday, November 19, 2011 at The Abbewood.She was born September 12, 1921 in Penfield and was a 1939 graduate of Penfield High School. She received her degree as a registered nurse from M.B. Johnson School of Nursing in 1942 and was then employed at the Lorain County Health Department and then in the maternity ward at EMH Healthcare as head nurse and retired as acting supervisor after 30 years service in 1983.Virginia was a 65 year member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Elyria, First Church Women and the Cora May Walton Club of the church. She was also a member of Lorain County Historical Society and Fourthurs.Virginia is survived by daughters Kay (Scott) Scofield of Battle Creek, MI and Carol (Fred) AuWerter of Deerfield, IL; grandchildren Timothy and Kristin Scofield and Paul and John AuWerter; great grandson Zachary; sisters Roberta Leach of Westlake and Lois (Herb) Rake of Cuyahoga Falls.She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Virgil M. DeFields November 5, 2008 and parents Richard and Marion Leach.Friends will be received Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A funeral service will be Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Christina Kukuk officiating. Burial will be in Penfield Cemetery.
