Virginia Pence Obituary
Virginia Mae Pence (nee Miller), 91, of Avon, died peacefully at her home Monday, April 29, 2013.She was born August 17, 1921 in Chicago, IL, was a 1939 graduate of Lakewood High School and during WWII, worked as a Riveter in the U.S. Bomber Plant in Cleveland. She attended Baldwin Wallace and Case Western Reserve University and was employed for many years as a systems analyst at Bonne Bell in Lakewood. She taught English as a second language, was a certified swimming instructor at Lakewood Y.W.C.A. and a volunteer camp counselor. Virginia enjoyed quilting, snorkeling, swimming, reading, crossword puzzles, computer games and loving her family. She and her husband took many trips with Elderhostel and visited 48 states.Virginia is survived by her husband of 71 years, Wallace J. Wally Pence; daughters Judy M. (Kenneth) Ludwig of Norfolk, CT and Janet K. (Jeffery) Eby of Avon; son Rev. James W. (Marcia Becker) Pence of Waynesboro, VA; grandchildren Benjamin and Matthew Ludwig, Elizabeth Kusnerik, Brian Pence and Steven Eby. Also surviving are 7 great grandchildren, with one more on the way.She was preceded in death by a brother Robert Miller.Friends will be received Friday, May 3, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of an 11:00 a.m. memorial service at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 360 Princeton Ave., Elyria with Reverend Paul Jaster officiating. Interment will be in Waynesboro, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 360 Princeton Ave., Elyria, OH 44035.
