William Ruth Obituary
William E. Bill Ruth, 77, of Elyria, died April 20, 2014 surrounded by his family at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. He was born May 21, 1936 in Crawford County, OH and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School. He received his bachelors degree and masters degree from The Ohio State University. Bill began his 40 year career in education in Shreve, OH and then helped to establish Lorain County Joint Vocational School, where he was employed for 30 years, retiring as Superintendent in 1998. He was active in the formation of the original Lorain County 911 and had served as levy committee chairman. Bill was an active member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and over his career was also a member of many professional and civic organizations.He enjoyed spending time with his family and wintering at their home in New Port Richey, FL. Other interests included flower gardening, golf, reading and puzzles. Bill is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sally L. (nee Davies); sons Edward (Peggie) Ruth of Elyria and Michael (Pam) Ruth of Waxhaw, NC; daughter Patti (Kirk) Gott of Wellington; stepson Chip (Jane) Heginbotham of Gilbert, AZ; stepdaughters Beth (Jim) McNulty and Sandra (Rob) Vidovich, both of Elyria; Susan (Greg) Willoughby of South Amherst, Nancy Borgia of N. Ridgeville and Heidi (Tim) Knapp of Grafton; grandchildren Ryan, Jennifer and Kelly; Kristin and Jarrett; Alex and Brieanna; Emily, Sara, Hope, Jared, Ian and Kyle; Ryan; Maria, Joseph, and Anthony; Abby and Alexis; Donald and Dustin; and Matthew and Christopher; 17 great grandchildren; brothers Robert and Daniel Ruth and close friends Frank Williams, Lynn Mand and Chase Klun. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Vivian Ruth and a brother Richard Ruth. Friends will be received Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lounge at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 300 Third St., Elyria. A service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Reverend June Hardy Dorsey officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elyria Schools and Friends Alumni Association, P.O. Box 63 Elyria, OH 44036 for the establishment of a student scholarship fund.
