William Lewis Obituary
William James Lewis, 82, of Elyria, died July 1, 2020 at Mercy New Life Hospice, Lorain. He was born January 22, 1938 in Cleveland and attended Columbia High School, graduating from Elyria High School as one of the 4 co-valedictorians in the class of 1955. Bill then received his BA from Baldwin Wallace and his MA from Western Reserve University. He continued with graduate work at the University of Kentucky and also served 6 years with the National Guard. For many years, Bill had been a partner in Lewis Monument Company and Lorain Monument Company with his father, James and brother, Bob. He was a 60 year member of First United Methodist Church and had been a life long philatelist. Throughout the years, he traveled extensively with his wife, brother and his wife, and friends. Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Darlene M. (nee Burill); daughters, Jennifer Lewis of Enosburg Falls, VT and Amy (James) Mattey of Avon Lake; grandchildren, Eric and Lauren Mattey; nieces; nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marion (nee Hales) Lewis; twin brother, Robert and his wife, Judy; grandparents; aunts and uncles. A graveside service for the family was held at Columbia Township Cemetery with Reverend W. Kent Joy officiating.
