Willie Bill James Johnson, 77, of Oberlin, fell asleep in Jesus October 11, 2014 at his home following a lengthy illness.He was born April 26, 1937 in Demopolis, Alabama.Bill was employed as a maintenance worker at General Motors in Elyria, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a member by profession of faith, of Park Street Seventh Day Adventist Church, Oberlin.Bill loved to talk about how good the Lord was to him and to share bible study with the church mens group. He received numerous awards for his volunteer work at the church food pantry. He enjoyed cooking, camping and in the summer, he could be found outdoors in his favorite chair or taking a daily afternoon drive around town. Other interests included hunting, fishing and watching sports on TV. You could always count on Bill and his red truck to help a friend in need.He was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend, but the love of his life was spending time with his son and grandchildren.Willie leaves to cherish his memory his son Anthony (Stacie) Johnson; sisters Ora Owens, Rosa Suggs, Carrie Robertson and Minnie Russell; brothers Neal and David Johnson; grandchildren Anthony M., Briana, Devin, Catlin and Markell Johnson; two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, additional relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his wife Willie Mirl Johnson in 2013; parents Clinton and Susie (nee Phillips) Johnson, Sr.; sisters Anettie, Minnie and Jessie and brothers Clinton, Jr., Aaron, Leavy and Lieutenant. Friends will be received Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Friends will also be received Friday, October 17, 2014 from 11 a.m. until the time of a noon service at Park Street Seventh Day Adventist Church, 99 S. Park St., Oberlin, OH 44074.
