Elaine Thompson (nee Sharpless), 83, of Elyria, died Monday March 9, 2026. She was born July 31, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio and has been a resident of Elyria since 1967. She attended Western College for Women, received a bachelor of arts in 1964 from Ohio University and a MSSA in 1970 from Case Western Reserve. She was employed as a social worker at Lorain County Children Services beginning in 1970, Lorain County Board of Mental Retardation and private practice. Elaine was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Elyria, American Association of Women and a lifetime member of Girl Scouts. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge and traveled to numerous countries including England, Spain, Portugal, Egypt, Israel, Peru, China, and many more
Elaine is survived by a son, Phillip J. Porter of Elyria; sister, Linda (Gary) Downen; brother, Keith Sharpless; nieces, Sarah and Emily and nephews, Joshua, Ron and David.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Taylor Thompson in 2025; parents, Robert and Marie Sharpless and a brother, John Sharpless.
Friends will be received Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 11:00 am until the time of a noon memorial service at Dicken, Dovin & Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria.
